I do not do that well.Introducing some of the funny phrases in Korean commonly used in casual conversation as you read this blog. Asking me to sound out a word means I have to juggle figuring out which sounds I need to make and remember them as I figure them out. I can usually figure out the first sound I need but when I try to figure out the second sound, I forget what the first sound was. I have to look at the possible sounds each part of a word can make. Here's what happens when I try to pronounce a word. Two years at subway, half of it being on register was a special kind of hell for me. My reading comprehension is excellent but I can't read anything out loud to save my life. There is no connection in my brain between written english and spoken english except for the sounds I've memorized. ![]() I literally memorize the sound for the written word because I can't work out how to pronounce it. I can not pronounce any word I haven't heard before unless I take several minutes for my brain to attempt to process the rules for pronouncing things.
